Cultural Influences Have Left Their Mark on Marco-Abel Nordio
Marco-Abel Nordio spent most of his childhood and adolescence in Trieste, Italy. The cultural attractions of this historic city had a major impact on the young Marco and instilled in him a desire to learn more about the customs practiced in lands around the world. During his extended career with the Soncini Trieste and Portuale Trieste soccer organizations, Marco had plenty of opportunities to travel and to compete in cities across the European Union. Trips to Slovenia, Croatia, Germany and Austria offered even more insight into the differences present even in very similar cultures.
Nordio's deep commitment to environmental conservation was inspired in part by visits he made to Slovenia during his youth in Trieste. Slovenia borders Italy to the east and is a popular destination for ecotourism in the European Union. Nature preserves and protected areas constitute approximately 36 percent of the total land area of Slovenia. The country's strong commitment to environmental responsibility has earned it accolades from a wide range of global organizations. Slovenia has established a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan in conjunction with its signatory status on the Rio de Janeiro Convention on Biological Diversity agreement in 1992.
During a recent trip to Jamaica, Marco-Abel Nordio was able to experience the thrill of swimming with dolphins in world-famous Dolphin Cove. This opportunity to make contact with these beautiful and playful aquatic mammals was a memorable experience for Nordio and further cemented his commitment to protecting natural habitats and preserving wildlife throughout the world.
Marco-Abel Nordio, a world traveler who enjoys exploring different lands and cultures, had many opportunities to visit European cities while he played semi-professional soccer in Italy. Slovenia made a particular impression on him and inspired his commitment to environmental conservation.
